A Servant’s Heart
This past Memorial Day my husband and I were invited to dinner at friends’ house. After a lovely dinner we played board game for couples called Couplez. The object of the game is to find out how much or how little your mate knows about you. It proved to be a very interesting game. The game is played by each couple asking their partner questions. One of the questions my husband asked me brought a lot of conversation to the group. He asked me 'when your mate is given an assignment by God does she' A. Do it immediately without hesitation? B. Do it but only after some hesitation? C. Do the assignment but do it grudgingly? D. Don’t do the assignment at all? Well bless my husband’s heart he choose answer A. When I revealed my answer, which was B, there was a lot of discussion from the other couples. Some of which was “I never would have thought that.” They were amazed when I answered that often I struggle with the call of God on my life and being 100% obedient all of the time. And the calling to be a pastor’s wife is one that I struggle with quite often. If you’re reading this page, I would guess that you’ve struggled with this too! When my husband and I met some twenty-six years ago, I never thought that being a pastor’s wife would be part of my life. I knew something about being a PW (Pastor's Wife) since my mother was. However looking back on my life now, she held her position so seamlessly, graciously, and with much dignity. She was so committed and devoted, I didn’t even notice or become aware of the every day struggle she so patiently went through. But now as I travel this road of ministry, every bump and turn in the road is very noticeable to me. I find it amazing that when we are given titles such as “The Pastor’s Wife” there are so many assumptions that accompany it, such as you don’t make mistakes, you don’t have any struggles, you don’t have any flaws, you don’t have feelings like the rest of us.” The list goes on and on. But these things couldn’t be further from the truth. WE do struggle in these areas and more often than not, our struggle is greater because we are in the ‘fish bowl’ all eyes on us. But on these pages you will find some commonality. Someone who knows what you are going through. Feel free to leave a comment. We’re all trying to get through this together
